Educational objective
• Guiding students to discuss the artworks found on the EducArt platform about the theme of Ecology
• Guiding students to grasp current environmental issues
• Guiding students to produce a printed scientific magazine, in which all the articles are written by the students
Description of activity
Class 1: Once the project and the EducArt platform have been presented, students share their appreciation of the artworks on the platform, as a group. Students then watch the video featuring Louise Vandelac. Students read and study the text related to the theme of Ecology on the EducArt platform. Students then revisit the work from Science and Technology class and study the written assignments produced in that class.
Class 2: Students watch the video featuring Pierre Béland. Students work in smaller groups in the lab. They search for words that can be used specifically in relation to the phenomena studied in Science and Technology class. They draft an explanation, in layperson’s terms, of the phenomena studied in Science and Technology class.
Class 3: Students work in smaller groups in the lab. They look for valid references to incorporate in their rough draft. Based on their rough draft, students write a text about an ecological phenomenon observed in Science and Technology class.
Class 4: Students work in smaller groups in the lab. Students incorporate a copyright-free artwork selected from those studied on the EducArt platform into the text. Students lay out the text in article format and save it as a PDF.
Class 5: As a group, students assemble the articles and produce a magazine. They find a title and paginate the pages. They create a Table of Contents. Then they send a digital version of the magazine to the Visual Arts students.
