Educational objective
•Guiding Secondary II students to become aware of situations in daily life in Quebec in which girls and boys are treated differently
•Guiding students to expose a situation in our society in which men and women are treated differently
•Guiding students to produce a sketch related to the theme of Feminism
Description of activity
Class 1: Once the project has been explained, students read and study the text related to the theme of Feminism found on the EducArt platform. Students watch the videos featuring Janet Werner (in English), Michèle Audette and Véronique Grenier. In smaller groups, students complete a heuristic diagram on the theme of Feminism. Students discuss feminism, with the work completed in English as a Second Language class as their starting point.
Class 2: Students explore the theme of Feminism on the EducArt platform. Students share an appreciation of the artworks related to the theme. In smaller groups, students consider the project’s purpose with a view to write a sketch about feminism.
Class 3: To deepen the discussions that occurred in the last class, students take another look at the artworks and videos found on the EducArt platform. In smaller groups, students engage in an automatic writing exercise on the theme of Feminism.
Class 4: In smaller groups, students point out situations of inequality by adopting a feminist standpoint and note each instance down on paper. Students synthesize these situations by composing punch lines and then copy them out on a banner.
Class 5: Students write out the sketch neatly, including a punch line, and then present the work orally.
